Cloud Computing Round Two
Last month I was a speaker in a webinar on Cloud Computing, from Concept to Reality. For those that are not familiar, this opportunity presented itself when I took over web operations last year for Team San Jose where we moved the web hosting to an Amazon EC2 setup from a shared hosting platform.
The webinar was hosted by DMAI, Destination Marketing Association International, which is an organization where I sit ...

Prey Project for Droid & Laptops
After my recent acquisition of R2D2, I started noticing the actual Droid commercials on TV, primarily the one with the alarm sounding for when the phone is stolen, or just missing. Of course I began with Google and a few clicks away I found the Prey Project.
My initial thought was that for a free service Prey sounded freaking amazing. Alarm sounding, lock out of phone and/or laptop, cross platform capability, ...

NAMP 2010 Conference in San Jose
I attended the NAMP (National Arts Marketing Project) conference this weekend as both an attendee and as a worker.
I started Saturday off with attending “Beyond Cocktails and Facebook: Strategies to attract young adult audiences” which was a packed room with people having to stand. Unfortunately, the session left many of us wishing there had been more sharing of strategies and less Q&A of the audience as several of us felt ...

IT Dependence on Google
Are IT workers becoming dependent on Google because technology is too convoluted or is it because we just don't want to memorize shit?
I shouldn’t be surprised really, but I’m finding that I’m not the only one who has become almost dependent on Google Search in the work place. With reductions in staff and growing job responsibilities, many people are being tasked with functions that are not necessarily their area of ...

Loving my R2D2 Droid
I recently upgraded to the Motorola R2D2 limited edition Droid from Verizon. My previous phone, a Blackberry Curve, had been a good phone and email device for some time, but the big seller for me getting a new phone was really the mobile hot spot.
At first glance the R2D2 Droid is fun, its backing is designed to look like the useful and lovable droid from Star Wars and some Star ...

Test Drive the Nissan Leaf
Earlier this week I signed up for Nissan’s Road Tour, where I would get to drive a Nissan Leaf. If you don’t know what the Nissan Leaf is, it’s the fully electric car that gets, on average, one hundred miles to the charge. The standard charge features allow for the industry standard plug you can find at many electric charging places, as well as a wall outlet charger. It takes ...

Content Creation for Beginners
I was recently on a brief vacation where the subject of local content distribution came up, though primarily, how one can start putting together an online portfolio of sorts around content creation.
Now the following is simply my own advice and what I deem are worthwhile activities for those looking to go into this type of career.
While it goes without saying that you have your own site, even if it’s simply ...

Playing with Bloomfire
Note: This is my first look at Bloomfire. The following are initial reactions to the first peak at an alpha release. That said, these opinions are based solely on what is available, though understanding that any of this could change.
Today I spent an hour playing with the Bloomfire Alpha. Without going into specifics that might change during testing, the idea is a content distribution outlet for companies, though technically individuals ...

Sample Writing for Examiner
I recently did some writing for Examiner.com (links coming after their site finishes migrating data over), very similar to my writings for SanJose.org, especially since my section is Nightlife-ish topics. But for those curious, here was the writing sample that got me approved by them.
San Jose plays as hard as it works!
You may be familiar with our California Casual style of dressing, and this relaxed theme carries over into our ...
